A little bit of history...
As the best kept secret of the Caribbean, Dominican Republic has all the resources necessary to be classified as a tropical paradise: beaches with different sand and sea water colors, lush vegetation, rivers, lakes, mountain ranges and all sort of caves. The Dominican Republic has the highest peak, Pico Duarte(3,098 m) and the lowest point, Lake Enriquillo (29m below sea level) in the Caribbean.
But there is something more we are gifted with: An unique treasure, a pectolite with blue colors only found and mined in the Dominican Republic; it has been named Larimar by its second discoverers Miguel Mendez and Norman Rilling. Actually its first discoverer was a Spanish priest by the name of Miguel D. Fuentes L. who did not succeed in arousing interest in this treasure. The name Larimar, is a combination of Larissa, Miguel Mendez daughter’s name, and mar, the Spanish word for sea!
In the seventies Mr. Mendez and Norman Rilling were so impressed with this stone that they had it analyzed by the Smithsonian Institute. Larimar was classified as a pectolite but with an unique blue color, with a hardness of 4.5 - 5 on the Mohs scale. The demand of this blue stone gave birth to our Dominican Larimar jewelry, carrying the essence of the Dominican Republic, each Larimar jewel is impregnated with
